This song is a paraphrase or rewrite of both the lyrics and melody of the "Evening Prayer from the second act of Englebert Humperdinck's opera Hansel and Gretel composed in Frankfurt in 1891 and 1892.

I'm calling it " Fourteen Angels" because I seem to have rewritten it.

I don't know where I first heard the tune, but I've always loved it. Found the words a few years ago.. but I seem to have changed them and the tune also.

I didn't set out to change anything, this is just the best I could do to remember the original... Turns out it's very different.

Really surprised me to see how much different.... a folksinger friendly version... hope you can use it...... john
