Story

I spend a lot of time on the ocean in Southeast Alaska, a very beautiful place full of incredible sights and creatures: mountains and glaciers, puffins and sea otters, whales, seals, sharks and eagles.

I'm not lonely... most of the time... but there are times when I just want to say to somebody "Wow, did you see that, isn't that beautiful?"

Truth is though, that even if I had someone to share these things with, the whale would jump out of the water, I'd say "Did you see that?" and by the time my companion looked up to see what I was talking about, it would be gone.

No two people see the same thing the same way either, so in a way we are all alone in our own worlds of perception and experience... and that's why I'm sure you understand.

Story

This is the original version of the Far Away Waltz... only this is in 4/4 time. This is one of the few songs I've written where the music came first. I was taken with the harmony... listen to the two guitars.

The other interesting thing about the song is that it has no rhymes and only two verses. I didn't know you could do that until it happened, and two verses are plenty if you have a good chorus and a pretty melody for a break in between.
